Translation and rotation of the pill reflect the GI Motor Pattern. 3D and time display of raw data is sufficient for the localization (transit time) and a first evaluation of the local activity. Data post-processing provides:

The amplitude of back and forth movements increased in the antrum (oscillatory frequency at about 2.6 /min) before the emptying into the duodenum occured. Fast passage of the duodenum, in two phases: the first two thirds in 20 seconds, and the last third - up to the Treitz angle - after a 3min 30 pause. The fast progression continues on more than 30cm in the jejunum.

A long movement from the splenic flexure to the rectal ampula. The progression of the magnet is interrupted by 2 pauses. During the first pause, the descending colon shows rhythmic contractions at about 2-3 c/min.


Local Activity


Electrical slow waves result in rhythmic contractions seen as rotations and translation of the marker. The frequency, the amplitude and the shape of these movements permit to quantify the local mechanical activity.
